Tails of Iron – a 2D hand-drawn RPG from British studio Odd Bug Studio, published by United Label, released on September 17, 2021. The world of rats and frogs looks like an illustration from a children's book, but the combat is brutal, in the spirit of Dark Souls, and mistakes are rarely forgiven. Heir to the Rat Throne The main character, Reggie the rat, is heir to the Rat Throne. The kingdom is ravaged by a war with the frog clan, ruled by Wart the Green, and Reggie must drive out the invaders and reclaim his home. The story is narrated by Doug Cockle, familiar to many as the voice of Geralt in The Witcher series, and his deep, raspy voice sets the tone for the entire game. The world is divided into six natural zones with hidden paths and secrets, and along the way, you encounter companions who can be called on for specific quests. Rolling, parrying and finishing Combat is built on attention. Before a powerful blow, the enemy gives a signal, and the color of the signal indicates whether to roll or block. You can parry, perform powerful finishing moves, and use a bow. Weapons vary significantly: an axe hits hard, a spear is faster, and a sword is versatile. Heavy armor protects better but slows you down. Enemies range from zombie frogs to enormous beasts, and the bosses are the warlords of the frog clan, each requiring a different approach. Brothers in the Fortress Reggie's brothers live in his fortress. Rem-Rem cooks dishes from the ingredients he finds, which increase his maximum health. Bam-Bam forges new weapons and armor if you bring him the blueprints. Doug gives quests in various regions, and side quests earn gold. The game already includes two free add-ons: Bright Fir Forest, with new quests and a squirrel festival, and Bloody Whiskers, with five new bosses and two difficulty levels.
