Praetorians - HD Remaster Praetorians is a remastered version of the 2003 tactical strategy game Praetorians from Spain's Pyro Studios. The remaster was developed by Torus Games and published by Kalypso Media on January 24, 2020. There's no base building or resource gathering: you start with a few squads and win through formations, terrain, and careful targeting. Caesar's Path to Power The military campaign recounts the events that brought Julius Caesar to power in Rome. It features over twenty missions: first, the dusty roads of Egypt, then battles in Gaul, and finally, his triumphant return to Italy. The finale unfolds on home soil, where the emperor must fight for the victor's laurels against those who protect him. The closer you get to him, the more often you encounter the Praetorian Guard, the Roman emperor's elite guard and the empire's most dangerous fighters. Romans, Gauls and Egyptians There are three nations in the game, and they fight differently. Each has its own troop types, with special abilities and formations. Infantry benefits from being covered by a line, archers can be placed on high ground, and forests can conceal an ambush. Terrain often determines the outcome of a battle as much as numbers: a narrow bridge or hill gives a small unit a fighting chance against a larger army. The key here is to combine units to exploit your own strengths and your enemy's weaknesses. What the remaster changed The graphics have been upgraded to high resolution, textures and models have been updated, and the controls have been redesigned to work with a gamepad: the remaster brings the series to consoles for the first time.
