Ninja or Die – a pixel platformer roguelike about ninjas in medieval Japan from Nao Games, published by Marvelous Europe, was released on August 2, 2023. On Steam it is called Ninja or Die: Shadow of the Sun. Controls are reduced to a single button, and mistakes are unavoidable: one miss, and the run starts over. One button and a precise jump The hero, a lightning-fast assassin, moves between platforms by jumping, which you aim at the right spot. The entire game revolves around this mechanic: jump at the right time, land on the right ledge, hit the enemy, and avoid triggering a trap. The attack power increases over time. Enemies on parachutes, weapon throwers, and mages confront you, with poisons, blades, and other traps placed between them. At the end, hellish bosses await, each with their own set of moves. The village and the blacksmith Levels are partially procedurally generated and partially handcrafted. New zones open up, old ones can be revisited, and after death, the hero is immediately revived and retains permanent upgrades. Between runs, there's a village: at the blacksmith, you can upgrade katanas and shurikens, and you can develop melee, ranged attacks, defense, and magic. Scrolls, souls, and food are collected along the way, and you can pay the local healer for healing. Over time, new agents are unlocked, each with their own playstyle. Endless Tower In addition to the main levels, there are two endless modes: Watchtower and Corridor, where the rewards mount until you stop. Statistics track kills, jumps, distance traveled, damage dealt and received, so there's always a chance to beat your own record. Retro-style pixel graphics: castles, skeleton forests, battlefields.
