Gears of War is a third-person shooter from Epic Games, released on PC in November 2007. The port was developed by the Polish studio People Can Fly and published by Microsoft. It is the first installment in the series, beginning the story of Marcus Fenix, and is the game that popularized cover-based shooting. Sulfur after the Day of Appearance The action takes place on the planet Sera. A Locust Horde has emerged from the underground voids and begun decimating humanity; this day is called the Day of Emergence. The surviving COG forces retreat to the Jacinto Plateau. Marcus Fenix is imprisoned for attempting to rescue his father without permission, but his old friend Dominic Santiago breaks him out. Delta Squad, with Cole and Baird, then goes behind enemy lines, and their main adversary is General RAAM. Cover, active reloading and a chainsaw People don't live here in the open for long, so almost every firefight revolves around running from wall to wall. Active reloading adds risk: if you press the button at the right moment, the next clip hits harder, but if you miss, the weapon will jam briefly. The primary Lancer rifle is equipped with a chainsaw under the barrel, and in close combat it can cut enemies in half. The campaign can be completed with two players: the second player controls the House, and at points where the path splits, the partners take different routes. What's only available in the PC version? The Windows version received five additional chapters in Act V, where the squad escapes the giant Brumak, which was not present on the Xbox 360. Three maps and a "King of the Hill" mode with a fixed capture point were added for multiplayer, and an editor based on UnrealEd was included.
