About the game
Bergfried is a medieval strategy game about building castles, developing estates, and defending lands from enemy armies. Here, a fortress isn't assembled from identical squares, but rather grows from the terrain itself: walls follow the curves of hills, towers protect vulnerable approaches, and gates become the heart of the defense. A good castle begins not with a beautiful silhouette, but with an understanding of where the attack will come from. The fortress must live, not just stand. Beyond the walls, villages must be developed, resources must be extracted, farming must be managed, and gradually the scattered lands must be transformed into a powerful holding. Markets, tournaments, and visits from important guests enliven the world and force constant consideration not only of war but also of the future of the state. The wealthier the settlement becomes, the more opportunities open up for construction, recruiting troops, and preparing for long sieges. Battles require a cool head. Archers hold the walls, spearmen meet the onslaught, knights decide the outcome of open combat, and a tactical pause allows for calm orders at the most tense moment. Victory is born of sound planning, a strong economy, and the ability to use the army where stone walls no longer provide protection.
