YesterSol is an adventure RPG platformer in which the player assumes the role of Corin, a young soldier and aspiring sun warrior. His primary weapon is the Sunspear, which can not only strike enemies but also return to its wielder after being thrown and be used as a platform to overcome obstacles. After his hometown is destroyed by Culex's monstrous minions, Corin sets out to find the source of their presence, leading to a cursed land he previously knew only from books. The great Kingdom of SolLuna once flourished here, but disagreements between followers of different faiths led to a schism and a full-scale civil war. Now, abandoned structures, dangerous places, and a multitude of mysteries remain of its former glory, which Corin must explore as he attempts to understand the connection between the past and the current invasion of monstrous mosquito minions. The Sunspear allows for a variety of interactions with the world around you, making movement a part of combat and exploration. It can be thrown at enemies, returned, and used as a temporary foothold, opening a path through otherwise inaccessible areas. Throughout his journey, Corin is aided by a small spirit cat, who accompanies him on his perilous expedition. Together, they must navigate cursed lands, confront the aftermath of an ancient conflict, and seek a way to stop the threat that has once again brought the legacy of Culex to life.
