Wizard of Legend – a fast-paced top-down roguelike from the small studio Contingent99, released on May 15, 2018. Funding for development was raised on Kickstarter in 2016, and the game sold over half a million copies in the first couple of months after release. Speed is key: spells fly one after another, and between them, the hero constantly dashes away from attacks. Trials of Chaos Each attempt is a run through the Trials of Chaos, a ten-floor dungeon that rebuilds each time you enter. It's divided into three elemental sections, each with three floors, and at the end of each awaits a Council member, a master of their element. After the three sections, a final boss sequence ensues. Shops are located on each floor, where new spells and relics can be purchased with gold found during the run. Relics provide passive bonuses and significantly alter the combat style. A Hundred Spells There are over a hundred spells, called Arcana, divided by element: Fire, Air, Earth, Lightning, Water, and Chaos. Each button is assigned an Arcana: a basic attack, a dash, regular spells, and a powerful signature spell. These can be chained together, making it easy to customize your set: some players engage in close combat, others keep their distance. Chaos Arcana are awarded only for defeating the last Council member. Chaos Stones persist between runs and can be used to permanently unlock new spells and robes with various bonuses. Together on one screen Trials of Chaos can be completed with two players in local co-op. Each wizard collects their own gear, and a fallen partner can be brought back if enough enemies are defeated.
