Valken is a single-player tactical shooter where the player is sent against a closed military organization without support, partners, or room for error. Most missions revolve around stealthy infiltration, intelligence gathering, and target elimination, so charging in head-on is almost always a bad idea. Any noise, a misstep, or a missed enemy quickly turns a quiet operation into a very short-lived attempt at survival. Moving around the levels plays no less a role than shooting The locations are designed with an emphasis on verticality: you can climb, find alternate routes, and use the environment for stealth. Some missions are best accomplished through stealth assassinations and reconnaissance, while others quickly devolve into intense firefights if the operation gets out of control. Because of this, the game constantly forces you to be aware of your surroundings and plan your escape route in advance. In addition to the story campaign, there are standalone missions involving evacuating survivors during an infestation. These missions take on a noticeably more intense pace: you have to search for survivors, escort them through dangerous areas, and simultaneously fend off threats pressing in from all sides. All of this is further enhanced by realistic presentation, dynamic lighting, and enemies that react to noise, movement, and the player's actions.
