Touhou: New World – a fan-made action RPG set in the Touhou Project universe from Japanese studio Ankake Spa, the creators of Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, was released on July 13, 2023, with the support of publishers XSEED Games and Marvelous USA. You can play as the priestess Reimu Hakurei and the sorceress Marisa Kirisame. A guest from the outside world Gensokyo is separated from the rest of the world by a mystical barrier. One day, Reimu and Marisa are thrown beyond this barrier into the outside world, where they meet Sumireko, an ordinary girl who is literally obsessed with Gensokyo. The three of them return home, and the unexpected visitor's arrival sets off a chain of events in Gensokyo, the outside world, and beyond. As usual, it's up to the priestess and the sorceress to sort out what's happening. Bullets, Spell Cards, and Block Combat is isometric and is similar to bullet hell: enemies unleash fountains of projectiles that you must fight through. You can counter with spell cards that deal serious damage, melee strikes with a purifying wand, and a well-timed block that slows enemy attacks. Skills increase with use, and health, attack power, and other stats can be upgraded separately, tailoring the heroine to your fighting style. Equipment and inhabitants of Gensokyo Weapons, armor, and accessories drop with random stats. They can be combined, reforged, and crafted. Beyond the story, there are side activities: helping locals, searching for lost souls, exploring strange places, and participating in training battles.
