About the game

The Tape: Origins is a short psychological horror film with a VHS aesthetic, centered around found footage, a strange hotel, and a secret cult hiding in plain sight. Instead of the usual jump scares, it's dominated by the atmosphere of old tapes, unsettling silence, and the feeling of digging through things you shouldn't have seen in the first place. The more fragments you manage to reconstruct, the more disturbing the story of disappearances and sacrifices becomes. The films gradually fold into someone else's nightmare The recordings have to be carefully rewatched, searching for details and piecing together clues literally piece by piece. The old footage is constantly noisy, the picture is choppy, and some moments look as if something extra is left on the tape. Against this backdrop, escape-room-style puzzles emerge, centered on finding objects, codes, and hidden connections between events within the hotel. The main threat looms ever-present. They must escape before three in the morning, or the cult will return for its prey. The time limit keeps the tension almost nonstop: you want to linger and examine one more clue, but at the same time, you realize that delaying could end very badly. This works especially well toward the end, when the recordings begin to feel all too real. Features of the game Psychological horror with VHS aesthetics. Analysis of found video recordings and evidence. Escape room puzzles inside the hotel. Two endings and a 30-60 minute playthrough.
