Surreality Check is an absurdist narrative game in which you help Rowan Roach, an anxious cockroach, figure out his life. To do so, he enrolls in therapy with the personification of the Universe. The problem is that the Universe is self-assured, talks a lot, and appears like a giant instrument, which is hardly conducive to calm conversation. Sessions without instructions Dialogues and choices form the core of the experience. Therapy sessions devolve into a series of strange, ironic discussions, where advice vacillates between overly optimistic and frighteningly direct. You must decide how to respond: agree, doubt, or resist, gradually shaping the course of Rowan's thinking. Between conversations, spaces for exploration open up — metaphorical reflections of the protagonist's thoughts, fears, and dissatisfactions. There are no right answers or promises of improvement. The game observes how a person (or cockroach) searches for meaning, stumbling over their own expectations and the advice of others.
