Spirit School Days – a visual novel about a school haunted by spirits, from the small studio HaCoLoYi, was released on January 13, 2025. It's called "School Spirits" on Russian Steam. This is the debut of a team assembled by former employees of Tencent, NetEase, Seasun, and Ubisoft, who decided to make visual novels. Sakura at the school gates The story begins on the first day on the new campus. A mysterious cherry tree grows at the entrance, and when the protagonist touches it, a spiritual power awakens within him. From that moment on, the ordinary school takes on a different appearance. Students with special abilities are discovered among the classmates, ghosts in need of help roam the hallways, and some students must be freed from possession. Decisions in key scenes influence relationships with characters and the story's finale, with multiple endings. The story's main themes are friendship, love, and courage. The text is over 100,000 words long, significantly longer than the average short novella. All characters in the story are over 18, as the developers specifically state. Voice acting and drawing The graphics are 2D, anime-style, with animation and numerous CG illustrations. According to the authors, neural networks were used in approximately 10 to 20 percent of the work, primarily as references for some of the drawings, while the illustrations were finished by hand. The only similarity between the game and the well-known novella School Days, also available on the website, is the "school" in the title: the mood and plot are completely different.
