Sentinels of Freedom – a turn-based superhero tactics game from Underbite Games, released on April 16, 2020. Set in the Sentinel Comics universe, familiar from the board card game Sentinels of the Multiverse, the campaign's story was written by the creators of that universe. Bank robbery as a beginning The campaign begins with a seemingly routine mission: a bank robbery. It quickly becomes clear that there's a far more serious plan behind it, and the team of heroes must deal with a whole host of villains. The squad grows as the story progresses, and new heroes are unlocked as you progress. The missions are extensive, but they're broken up into individual encounters with their own objectives and enemies, and after each one, you can choose where to move next. This prevents combat from becoming an endless back-and-forth. Your Hero from Twelve Themes You create your main character yourself: their backstory, personality, power source, appearance, and costume. Abilities come from twelve themes, including melee, combo, support, marksman, interceptor, minions, and gadgets. You can equip abilities from any three themes into your character's stances. Stances provide bonuses to stats, such as movement range, and each has its own set of moves. Between missions, the character's appearance changes, right down to their build. Joint strikes and vigilance Movement is step-by-step, but without grids: the hero can be placed anywhere. Initiative determines the turn order, and actions at the start of the round can shift it. The first character in line receives a speed bonus, the last character receives an accuracy bonus, and heroes can be swapped. Allies can intervene: one distracts the target and removes their evasion, while the second attacks. Inactive characters react to movement in the alert zone, not only by firing, but also by changing cover when flanking.
