Langrisser 1 & 2 – a remake of two classic Sega Mega Drive tactical RPGs, developed by Chara-ani. The collection was released in Japan on April 18, 2019, and in the West by NIS America on March 10, 2020, in North America, along with the PC version on Steam. The originals were released in 1991 and 1994. Two Stories about Two Swords The collection is named after two blades, Langrisser and Alhazard, and each game has its own. In the first part, darkness descends upon the kingdom of Baldea, and Prince Ledin, avenging his father, marches against the Dalsis Empire. In the second part, darkness threatens the world once again. Its hero, the young wanderer Elvin, finds himself between the warring sides, and his decisions determine the path history will take and the world it will lead to. Commanders and mercenaries Battles are turn-based, on grid-based maps. The core of the series is the commanders: each player leads a squad of mercenaries, and the outcome of the battle depends on who you hire and how you deploy them. Troop types are strong against some and vulnerable to others, so deployment is as important as the hero's level. As they grow, commanders change classes, and a profession tree allows them to choose the type of fighter they will become. The remake rebalanced the game for modern tactical RPGs, adding conveniences, and introducing a new character to the story. New graphics and old music The characters were re-drawn by Ryo Nagi, known for his work on the Ar Tonelico series. The original composer, Noriyuki Iwadare, re-arranged his own melodies.
