Jazzpunk Director's Cut – a first-person comedy spy adventure from Canadian studio Necrophone Games, first released on February 7, 2014. The action takes place in an alternate version of the Cold War, where corporate espionage and cybercrime coexist with talking martinis. Agent Polyblank on a mission You play as Agent Poliblank, who's repeatedly sent on missions by his superiors: steal something, replace someone, infiltrate places where outsiders aren't allowed. On paper, it all sounds like a spy thriller, but every mission quickly descends into absurdity. Almost every object around you can be picked up or touched, almost every passerby can be spoken to, and almost everything ends in a joke. The main storyline is fairly quick, but exploring the levels and searching for hidden gags can take a long time. Parodies and mini-games The creators were inspired by parody comedies and old cartoons, and this is evident in every scene. Strange gadgets, exotic locations, visual puns, and references to old games and films are all present. Minigames pop up along the way, such as "Wedding Qake," where a Quake parody plays out right in the middle of a wedding. The world is open to exploration, and the funniest moments are usually found off-the-beaten-path. Style and music The graphics are simple and angular, the characters resemble mannequins, and the colors seem to have been lifted from a 1960s poster. The soundtrack deserves special mention: it features a wealth of exotic percussion and electronics on homemade analog instruments, and it perfectly captures the spy atmosphere.
