Dead Space 1 — a cult 2008 horror game from Visceral Games. It launched a series of the same name, which has sold over 8 million copies worldwide. All the games follow Isaac Clarke, a flight mechanic who encounters a rather unusual malfunction. In the first game, he and several others board the Ishimura spaceship to investigate a distress signal. What they encountered wasn't an engineering problem, but a genetic one: the Ishimura crew members had been transformed into zombies, or more precisely, into so-called necromorphs. This was due to an artifact called the Obelisk, which the crew had recovered from the planet Aegis-7, where minerals were being mined. Let's go into a little more detail: Dead Space takes us to the year 2414, by which time Earthlings have drained their home planet of everything they could and have begun to devastate other celestial bodies. The ship "Ishimura" belongs to the Concordance Extraction Corporation, a company that extracts mineral resources in incredible quantities. One day, among these resources, an artifact called the Obelisk was discovered, capable of transforming dead tissue into an extremely aggressive life form — a necromorph. Such a creature is incapable of thought or complex emotions; it merely moves with the goal of giving the Obelisk another victim. To destroy such a creature, it must be dismantled — dismembered. Some necromorphs have large lumps that explode upon destruction. In fact, there are over 20 varieties of these zombies. Features of the first part of Dead Space: - The player is immersed in an atmosphere of agonizing fear, the aesthetics of which are inspired by the films "The Thing" and "Alien". "Fighting necromorphs isn't easy, especially since Isaac Clarke isn't a mercenary, but an engineer. He rarely uses firearms, or weapons at all, preferring ore mining tools." - The threat lurks not only in the necromorphs - the character constantly faces a lack of oxygen, zones without gravity, and other cosmic dangers.
